Lodging

Here I'll discuss some affordable options for lodging that I use while on the road and recommend hotel brands and rewards programs that provide some of the best perks. For specific facility recommendations, visit my "Travel Tips by Location" page

Wyndham Rewards

This is my most recommended reward system for any hotel chain, if you travel frequently. With over 9,100 hotels in the USA, they have the largest number of facilities of any hotel chain in America. Most of their hotels are budget hotels, and a real bargain. They also have a very good rewards program that will get you free nights after only a few stays. Their credit card program is great as well!

IHG One Rewards

Although I use Wyndham hotels more than anything to save money, IHG is my favorite option if Wyndham properties are not in the area, or if I feel like having a little nicer stay. While Wyndham hotels are mostly 2-3 star hotels, IHG partners are mostly 3-4 star hotels...properties like Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza are ones I frequent. They also have a decent rewards program and a credit card to help you rack up points.

AirBnB

If gathering rewards points isn't important, hotels aren't available within a convenient distance to your travel destination, or if you plan on having an extended stay, Airbnb provides many types of housing options that won't cost you much more than a hotel. By renting people's actual homes/apartments, you can provide yourself with much more amenities that will help you feel right at home!
